Maria Shell - Linear Blocks: Line into Shape Workshop
Students will be exposed to an assortment of traditional quilt blocks built with line and ways to individualize these blocks through cutting, color placement, repetition of block, and bit making. Students will also be given information about working with solid colored fabrics, piecing techniques, and ideas for taking their quilt blocks and creating original quilts.

David Owen Hastings - Inspired by Architecture Workshop
In this workshop, David will guide you through a creative process for designing your own modern abstract quilts, taking inspiration from architectural photos to develop dynamic and unique quilt designs.

Conversation with Mary Margaret Pettway, Gees Bend Quilter
Mary Margaret Pettway is a Gees Bend Quilter. From Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center:
“Like so many young women growing up in Gees Bend, Alabama, Mary’s inspiration and knowledge of quilting came from her Mother, Lucy Pettway. She says that making quilts, clothes, aprons and bags was a necessity as well as a way of life because you were “using what you have to make what you need”. She has spent the past 39 years using this motto as her guide.”
Join us for a talk with Mary Margaret on May 21, 10:30-11:30 am PST.
